The third working group meeting of the «Multi-scale hYbrid short-term predictions and climate projections systems for compound FLOODing» (MYFLOOD) project, led by the GeoOcean group of the Universidad de Cantabria (UC), took place last week in Barcelona. The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya organized this event on December 12th and 13th at the university campus facilities.
The objective of the MyFlood project is to improve the understanding and forecasting capabilities for compound flooding in coastal areas. It addresses both regional and local scales, covering short-term forecasts and long-term climate change projections. The project aims to formulate methods and tools to characterize coastal regions concerning compound flooding drivers, evaluate their impacts and associated risks, pinpoint vulnerable areas, and model compound flooding using high-resolution models. Additionally, it incorporates the influences of climate change and morphological alterations to provide valuable climate services and assess socio-economic consequences. During this meeting, some of the points discussed were:
- Methodology for regionalisation of composite floods.
- Modelling of local archetypes
- Generation of seismic series using Weather types.
- Analysis of coastal flooding coastal zones
This research received financial support from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) and the European Union-NextGenerationEU/PRTR, as part of the project «MyFlood: Sistema multiescala híbrido para la predicción en el corto plazo y las proyecciones de cambio climático de la inundación debida a fenómenos compuestos» (Reference PLEC2022-009362).
