The theoretical and applied research of water and environmental technologies requires, in addition to a concrete and particular approach to technological problems, a more strategic and comprehensive vision. A vision that takes into account the social, economic and cultural system in which environmental engineering activity takes place.
Governance deals with the way in which the set of operators that have a relationship (direct or indirect) with water and territory, their interaction models and processes, are articulated and related. Governance responds to an integrated and systemic, but at the same time realistic, way of dealing with resource and territory management problems. This problem can also be approached from a sectoral perspective, especially for those productive economic activities that can have a significant impact on the aquatic environment and the territory, and which require integrated management strategies.
In this sense, research in the area takes into account that advanced water and territorial management, from the strategic level to the project level, must be accompanied by processes for assessing sustainability and environmental impact.
On this frontier between environmental technologies and the needs and interests of society, the need to investigate in depth nodular issues such as the history and philosophy of environmental science and technology has become apparent. In addition to deepening its roots, there is interest in exploring its relationships with other domains of knowledge and creativity such as art, as well as concern for how to communicate to society, and among the teaching community itself, on issues of water and territory.
Due to its interdisciplinary nature, some of these specific lines of research of GEAMA-ISA are carried out in collaboration with other university research groups.
Specific lines of research:
– Water and Territory Governance
– Sectoral policies and strategies with an impact on water and territory
– Strategic Environmental Assessment and Environmental Impact Assessment
– History and philosophy of environmental sciences and technologies
– Nature, art, science and technology
– Water and territory: communication, teaching and environmental education.
